Online at last! Scanned pages of the original/official Woolverstone Hall school journal, JANUS. It is hoped that as many issues of the original WH JANUS will be archived on this (perhaps other) site(s) in the years (months?) to come.

The scanning work is taking place in the UK by Eric Coates, who is now working frantically with the newly acquired WHOBA scanner.

Eric says: Floppy disks of text only Janus issues are NOW (15 December 1998) available. The first 12 (or maybe one or two more will go on a disk) issues are available on one disk. I'll be happy to send them for cost of postage and cost of disk. (Eric's contact details)

Please read this longer message from Eric...

At the moment Eric is scanning at the rate of about three issues a week -- much faster than I can keep up with, but hopefully I will manage to add an issue to the site each week. The table below will thus slowly elongate. The first issue (Vol.1, No.1) is going online today (1st August 1998) and there are also a couple of interesting articles from the 1972 WH 21st anniversary issue of Janus. I hope you enjoy reading this material. [Photo of Eric scanning >>]

A few notes about the Online Janus Archive.
  • I have tried to keep the HTML simple in order to preserve (roughly) the format and feel of the original Janus, and also to make it easier for OWs to print the pages for reading offline.
  • If you should notice any mistakes in the text or see anything that looks strange to you, please feel free to e-mail me (Tony Boys) and I will (try to) rectify it. Please remember that different browsers display some HTML tags in different ways, so it may not be possible to accommodate everyone's preferences!
  • We are not sure yet whether it will be possible to archive and display ALL known Januses all at the same time on this server. Hopefully it will be possible [As of December 1998 it looks like it will be possible] to make all issues of Janus permanently available, but if that is not possible then we may have to rotate them by having several issues on the site for e.g. a month at a time. If that happens there will be full information posted on this page.
  • Apparently Janus did not exist after 1977. We would be very happy to hear from anyone who knows what may have replaced Janus from the late 70s and throughout the 80s. OR does anyone have copies of any other WH materials stashed away in a drawer somewhere... old school calendars, programmes, and so on? (God forbid that any of those old "Uranus"es should reappear.....!)
