FIRST THURSDAY OF EVERY MONTH, FROM 6:30 PM.
THE VICTORIA -- HYDE PARK
The next WHOBA Monthly Soiree at the Victoria should be on the first Thursday evening of each month, except January (usually). [Please also see slightly amended note below about where to look when you get to the Victoria.]
See archived digital pics of the soiree attendees over the last couple of years...
There is no need to contact anyone before turning up at the Victoria, but if you would like to check that the meeting will actually happen, or who else might be turning up, please give us a call*. Or if there is someone in particular that you would like to try and meet up with, it might be possible to arrange, so please call or fax:
*(Bill Salisbury [Orwell '64-'70] and Peter Alexander [ne Carlile - Corners '64 -'71])
For the last couple of years or so OWs and ex-masters have been meeting on the first Thursday of (nearly) every month for a pint or two and a friendly chat at THE VICTORIA near Hyde Park.
The Victoria is on the corner of Sussex Place and Strathearn Place, just a short walk from Lancaster Gate or Paddington tube stations. I hope the attached map will help anyone unfamiliar with London or the area to find it without any trouble.
Or, you could look at another, possibly better
map, but be prepared to wait as it may take a little time. (Thanks to Ron Angel for sending in this link.)
The Victoria is a Fullers pub, with award winning London Pride and ESB. The WHOBA gathering usually takes place in a room on the second floor, or one of the other bars, depending on numbers and availability. Oz Hotz de Baar informs me that anyone going "should go UPSTAIRS using the smallish stairway that leads down to the toilets." If there are only a few OWs showing up they sometimes occupy a corner of the ground floor bar. They are usually recognizable by the 50th Anniversary WH rugby shirts they wear! I hope this info will help everyone who goes for the first time to locate other OWs.
If you live or work in town, or are coming up to London for a day or two, why not try and pop in and renew some old acquaintances?
